What is Marketing?

"What is Marketing?" is the obvious point to start the journey in to marketing and while reading through I did come across various definitions by various people.

But almost all of them sum up to the following statement - which is marketing in a nutshell!

"Marketing is the science and art of exploring, creating, and delivering value to satisfy the needs of a target market at a profit."

So Marketing is the process of providing goods and services to consumers by aligning with their needs and wants while making a profit in the process.

And for this to be achieved there are a certain set of factors that needs to be considered and perfected. According to Philip Kotler, those factors are;

  1. Opportunity identification
  2. New product development
  3. Customer attraction
  4. Customer retention and loyalty building and
  5. Order fulfillment.
If a company follows these factors and improves them they are most likely to succeed in thier business.

Learning Marketing

First of all I was a Software Engineer specializing in Microsoft technologies - specifically .NET and SharePoint. I did blog about it here when I was learning SharePoint.

Then started to move on to Business Analysis and Marketing aspects of the industry. I am currently reading online and offline learning meterial in order to improve my Business Analysis capabilities.

I will also be starting to learn Marketing. I am due to start CIM course in January 2014.

But until then I decided to start a blog and add some learning points to familiarize and improve my knowledge on marketing.
